WeatherRouting

Do these steps once, in this order.

1. Install

  1. Right-click an empty spot in the folder and choose Open in Terminal.
  2. Type ./install.sh and press Enter.
  3. The window says "WeatherRouting is installed". WeatherRouting is now in your applications menu, with a shortcut on your desktop. Close the window.

Install puts WeatherRouting in your own user folder: after that you can delete the unpacked folder and the zip.

2. Make my key

  1. Open your applications menu and choose WeatherRouting – Make my key.
  2. Type your name and press Enter.
  3. The window shows your key: one long line starting with "ssh-ed25519".
  4. Select that whole line with the mouse and press Ctrl+Shift+C to copy it.
  5. Write a mail to Steef (steef@vanbraband.org), paste the line with Ctrl+V and send it.
  6. Or attach the file "WeatherRouting key for Steef.txt" from your desktop instead.
  7. Press Enter to close the window.

Steef adds your key. He tells you when it is done.

The relay on mx keeps a record of what you download (which models, how much and roughly where), so Steef can see how the app is used, and keeps the messages you send.

3. Start WeatherRouting

  1. Choose WeatherRouting in your applications menu, or double-click the shortcut on your desktop.
  2. Your browser opens WeatherRouting.
  3. Keep the terminal window with the text open. Close it to stop WeatherRouting.

If the desktop shortcut does not start: right-click it and choose Allow Launching.

First weather

Open the Areas tab, open an area and press Refresh all. The first time this takes a few minutes.

A new version

  1. Close WeatherRouting (close its window).
  2. Extract the new version, the same way as the first time.
  3. In the new folder, open a terminal again and type ./install.sh. Then start WeatherRouting from the menu.

Your boats, routes, calculations and key stay where they are: an update only replaces the app. Then you can delete the unpacked folder.
